%H2%TRIPE & TYPE

Here are two typing tests which I have developed. The first is
TRIPE. This is my attempt to produce a workable typing tester in or
around 1k. The results are not impressive and simply produce a
string of gibberish to be copied and judged. The merit of the
program is its size. It is so small that you won't have to worry
about the file space that it occupies.

The second tester is more complex and requires the words to be typed
or copied to be entered as DATA lines. The example with the program
is from a well known typing tutor which I happened to have around
last Christmas when I started development. The numbers in quotes are
to split the tests up and allow you to start where you left off. The
difficulty of the tests is controlled by these numbers, these follow
the original book. The grading is basically according to how many
keys you want to practice.

Both programs are in BASIC. There is nothing subtle in the programs
and you should be able to follow them and improve on them easily.

I am told that there is no substitute for practice. These programs
can give you that. They also allow you to take your favourite typing
tutor and to replace the DATA lines with what you need to practice.

As an example, look at line 1340, which reads as follows:-

1340 DATA "2","a all alla a all lalla ala lal all ala a all"

The "2" and the other "numbers" are read by PROCfind and when you
reach the test you asked for it starts from there.

The "a all alla .... " text can be replaced by anything you want to
practice, but keep the length lass than one line.

PROCskip is my attempt to avoid boredom. If your performance on the
chosen test is too good, you are moved on to a later, more difficult,
set of data.

The marks system is my own choice. The maths is not difficult to
understand, change or remove.

Hope you enjoy these programs. They haven't made a touch typist out
of me yet.

The parts of the programs which were my work you may do with as you
like. The example text is copied from a book and is offered as an
example of what the program can do.

Any suggestions for improvement, write to me. If you have a better
program, or improve these yourself, then pass them to the Librarian.
