COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON THE SI AND SCO UNIX.

Q. I have installed a SI-XIO and I get a login on my terminal but I cannot input from the keyboard.
A. You probably have an interupt clash. You can test this by sending a file to the port which is bigger than 300 characters. The screen should stop after about 250 characters.
Solution: If you are using our 8.01 driver or lower you must reinstall the driver and this time select polled mode. If you are using our OpenServer5 driver(1.00) go into SCOadmin---Specialix---SI/XIO Hardware Configuration and select Poll cards.
This normally only applies to the ISA cards.

Q. I get a login on the screen but there is some corruption.
A. A common problem is to select the wrong getty entry for your terminal. If you select a 7 bit data entry but are using a 8 bit terminal you will get corruption on the screen. ie "19200" is a 7 bit entry but "n" is a 8 bit entry.
Solution: Go back into the port configuration screen and check which getty entry you have used. ("config.si" for SCO 3.2.4.x and "SCOadmin---Specialix--Serial Port enable" for SCO OS5).

Q. I have installed a SI card in a Pentium machine and it is failing to recognize the card or the adapters. I am using the version 8.00 driver.
A. There was a timing issue with fast Pentium's and there was a fix produced.
Solution: If using SCO 3.2.4.x also install the patch 8.01 via custom.
If using SCO OS5 upgrade to the version 1.00 driver for Openserver (uninstall previous driver first).

Q. When configuring my ports under the open server 5 driver my terminal type is not listed in the terminal type section.
A. This section only refers to transparent printing. It references the two files /etc/print.si and /etc/printcap.si which can be manually edited.

Q. I am installing an ISA card into a machine with PCI slots and I cannot get the card to recognize.
A. The resources needed by the ISA card are probably allocated to the PCI cards.
Solution: You will need to go into your BIOS and reserve the IRQ's and memory addresses for use by ISA legacy cards. Not all BIOS's however allow you to reserve memory addresses. Check with your PC manufacturer that you have the latest BIOS version.
If this still does not work you can move to our PCI card if you are using SCO OS5, Unixware 2.x, AIX 4.x or NT with our latest drivers.
