KANTKS11.ZIP Kannada Script editor/Transliterator. Free.

This replaces KANTKS10.ZIP, with transliteration bug fixes.
There are two programs in this FREE software (104 K) Requires EGA, MSDOS. The
editor, printer designed by Mr. K.P.Rao, 1483 40th Cross, Jayanagar T block.
Bangalore 560041, India. The transliterator developed by K. Srinivasan, 1109
Rue Gaboury, St. Bruno, Quebec, J3V 5X4. Canada. The transliterating
convention is close to English pronunciation of words in Roman script:

Vowels: a, aa/A, i, ee/I, u, oo/U, r^, e, E/ea, ai, o, O/oa, au/ow
Consonents:            k, K/kh, g, G/gh, n/NG;    c, C/ch, j, J/jh, n/NY;
t, T, d, D, N;         th, Th, dh, Dh, n;         p, P/ph, b, B/bh, m;
y, r, l, L, v; S, s, sh, H/h; (Old Kannada) R, z/zh

I am of the opinion that postings using the above convention would be
more easily readable in newsgroup postings. It will also be useful for
those learning Kannada with an English background. This software will permit
an "un-ambiguous" way to visualize it in Kannada script on a MSDOS PC.
Printing supported on Dot matrix (EPSON/IBM) printers only.

This is an example text file. There are two ways of using this software.

1. Usage

TKS Filename Viewing and printing, prepared texts, postings etc.
or
TKS Will invoke the EXAMPLE.TXT (this file).

Prepare a text using any pure ASCII editor. See EXAMPLE.TXT for
an example. The text could be from postings. Your familiar and
powerful commercial word processors can be used with all their
editing facilities, as long as the file is finally stored as
pure ASCII. The text should follow the phonetic transliteration
convention shown below. The kannada text is preceded by
"(backslash)kannada ".

An intermediate file TEMP.KAN will be produced and the EDITKP
will be invoked, with TEMP.KAN already loaded to view and print the file.

2. Usage

EDITKP For Direct typing and printing.

Stand alone editor printer of Mr.K.P.Rao. Type EDITKP at the dos prompt.
Then use his transliterating convention to enter text directly in
Kannada. This method is good for writing short notes, letters etc.
directly, by those familiar with the kannada script.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Transliterating Convention:

The text in Kannada should be preceded by the word (backslash)kannada(space).
The text in Roman should be preceded by the word (backslash)roman(space).
NOTE THAT all letters are in lower case.

Note that corrections made to the intermediate file TEMP.KAN using KP Rao's
program will not be effective in your original file.

The Kannada character set in Roman script is as under.

Vowels:
a aa/A i ee/I u oo/U e E/ea ai o O/oa au/ow

Pseudo vowel:
r^

Consonents:

k K/kh g G/gh n/NG c C/ch j J/jh n/NY
t T d D N th Th dh Dh n
p P/ph b B/bh m y r l L v
S s sh H/h (Old Kannada) R z/zh

I am of the opinion that postings using the above convention would be
more easily readable in newsgroup postings, yet will permit a
un-ambiguous way to visualize it in Kannada script using this
software.

Bugs: Certain un natural combinations of letters, seem to cause a
jam with the EDITKP software, which can be recovered only by booting again.
