1. GETTING STARTED

1.1 Hardware Installation

For use with a Serial Port, simply plug the GlidePoint
connector into the computer's serial port. For use with
a Round PS/2 Mouse Port, connect the supplied adapter
and plug into the round PS/2 mouse port connector. In
any event, connect BEFORE turning on the computer.

The GlidePoint touch surface is "Plug and Point"
compatible with standard Microsoft or Logitech mouse
software drivers which may already be installed on your
system. These are the only driver options for users of
     OS/2 and Windows NT.

For users of Windows 95, Windows 3.x or DOS, additional
features are available through the optional drivers on
the GlidePoint driver disk. See the appropriate section
of this document for driver installation instructions.

1.2 Using the Cirque GlidePoint

Glide your finger across the surface to move the
cursor. NO CONTACT FORCE IS REQUIRED. Roll your finger
tip slightly for extra-fine positioning. Use the
buttons like mouse buttons, or use tapping on the
surface. Tap with a light touch, and lift your finger
crisply. Be sure to smile while using!

1.3 More GlidePoint Information

Several sources of information are provided to help you
get the maximum benefit from your Cirque GlidePoint:

     - README.TXT: This file. Read it online with any
standard text editor, such as DOS Edit or Windows
Notepad, or with the command "more < readme.txt".
Also, it can be printed using the command "copy
       readme.txt prn:".

     - TUTORIAL.EXE: Interactive tutorial (Windows-based),
with tapping instructions, fun practice, and
additional hints. In Windows 95, use the Run command
from the Start menu. In Windows 3.x, use the Run
command from the File menu in Program Manager. You
can run the tutorial directly from the driver disk
(e.g., A:\TUTORIAL), or from the copy placed on your
hard disk (usually C:\GLIDE\TUTORIAL) by the
       GlidePoint driver installation procedure.

     - GLIDE.TXT: Details on accessing various GlidePoint
options through the GPSETUP.EXE configuration program
and the DOS driver GLIDE.COM. Can be read or printed
using the same methods for README.TXT.

     - GPSETUP.EXE: For a brief summary of the configuration
options, type GPSETUP with no command arguments.

     - GLIDE.COM: For a brief summary of the DOS driver
command line options, type "GLIDE /?" from the DOS
       prompt.

1.4 In Case of Difficulty

If you have trouble getting the GlidePoint to work
properly, try the following: Many portable computers
have built-in pointing devices. Some must be disabled
using the "CMOS BIOS setup" to recognize an external
pointing device like GlidePoint Portable. Be sure you
are plugged into a mouse port, not a keyboard port.
Connect while your computer is turned off. Install the
GlidePoint driver. Check README.TXT and GLIDE.TXT for
further information that may be relevant to your
     situation.

Before installing the driver files for Windows 3.1
using the INST31 program, you may need to modify the
setting of your PATH environment variable (usually set
up in AUTOEXEC.BAT). This install procedure works best
if your PATH includes the directory containing the copy
of Windows which you are currently using. Also, your
PATH should not reference any additional copies of
     Windows you might have.

If you continue to experience problems, or have
comments about your GlidePoint Touch Surface, please
call our Technical Support Staff at 1-800-GLIDE75
(1-800-454-3375) between 9 am and 4 pm, Mountain Time.

2. WINDOWS 95 SUPPORT

2.1 Driver Installation

To install the Cirque GlidePoint driver for Windows 95:

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties
       sheet.

     - Click the "General" tab, then click the "Change"
       button.

     - Click "Have Disk" and insert the driver disk in your
floppy drive. Confirm or correct the file path
       (normally "a:\"), then click "OK".

     - Click "Cirque GlidePoint", then "OK" to copy the
       driver files to your system.

     - After the files are copied, the Mouse Properties
sheet will show the new device name. Click "Close".

     - The "System Settings Change" dialog will offer to
restart your computer so the new settings can take
       effect. Select "Yes".

2.2 Using the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel

To change your Cirque GlidePoint settings under
     Windows 95:

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties
       sheet.

     - Click the "General" tab, then click the "Options"
button to bring up the Cirque GlidePoint Control
       Panel.

     - The available controls are grouped into four
       categories (Pointer, Motion, Orientation, Shortcuts).
Some of these options also appear on the standard
Mouse Properties tabs. However, in most cases they
are best controlled through the Cirque GlidePoint
pages. Online Help is provided for all topics.

     - When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK
to close the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel, then OK
       to close Mouse Properties.

2.3 Control Panel Restrictions

Most of the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel features
operate identically under Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.
There are two exceptions, both on the Pointer tab:

     - Pointer Growth: These controls are disabled under
Windows 95, where Pointer Growth is not currently
       supported.

     - Pointer Trails: These controls are disabled under
Windows 95. Instead, you can access the Pointer Trail
options from the Motion tab on the main Mouse
       Properties sheet.

3. WINDOWS 3.1 SUPPORT

3.1 Driver Installation

To install the Cirque GlidePoint driver for Windows 3.1
(including Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups) or
any DOS version (3.3 or later is recommended):

     - If Windows is running, exit to DOS. The installer
cannot be run from inside Windows or from a Windows
       DOS session.

     - Insert the driver disk in your floppy drive.

     - Type "A:\INST31" (using the appropriate drive letter)
and follow the prompts. You will be asked to confirm
the installation type (DOS, Windows, or both), the
driver directory, and whether the DOS driver should
be loaded at startup time. If you are unsure about
any question, simply accept the default response.

     - If you allowed the install program to update
AUTOEXEC.BAT, it will offer to reboot your system
with the new settings. The Windows driver will become
active the next time you start Windows.

3.2 Using the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel

     - From the Program Manager, open the Main program
group, then double-click on Control Panel.

     - Double-click the Cirque GlidePoint icon to bring up
the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel. (This enhanced
control panel replaces the standard Mouse Control
       Panel.)

     - The available controls are grouped into four
       categories (Pointer, Motion, Orientation, Shortcuts).
Online Help is provided for all topics.

     - When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK
to close the Cirque GlidePoint Control Panel.

4. DOS SUPPORT

The Windows 95 install procedure described above
automatically includes the DOS driver, GLIDE.COM.
This driver provides the support needed for DOS
     applications, either full-screen or windowed.

If you are not running Windows 95, use the INST31
program to install the Cirque GlidePoint drivers for
DOS only, Windows only (version 3.1), or both DOS and
     Windows.

Some of the pointing device settings (such as
sensitivity, acceleration and orientation) are shared
between the DOS and Windows drivers. The easiest way to
set these options is through the Cirque GlidePoint
Control Panel in Windows. The DOS driver will pick up
any changes the next time it starts up.

Other settings (such as the pointer options) may differ
between DOS and Windows, and are stored separately in
the GLIDE.INI file. You can change the DOS settings
directly by editing GLIDE.INI or by adding option
switches to the GLIDE command line. See the GLIDE.TXT
     file for details.
