This README.TXT file is formatted to 60 columns for easy
viewing with Filer.

There are two other files in this archive. HELVSD.FCL is
the source code which was complied by Gilles Kohl's FCL
program into the font loader HELVSD.COM.

It is very simple to install a FCL font loader into your
system. All you need to do is edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
to have it run the HELVSD.COM file sometime before the 100
or 200 command is executed that launches SysMgr. The order
of stuff in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file is as follows:

 SET statement(s)

 PATH statement(s)

ASERCTL to prevend SysMgr interference with the serial
port during DOS programs

 BATTman from ACE Technologies

 HELVSD.COM

 Buddy

 200

You can place the HELVSD.COM file in any directory. All
you have to do is run it to have it load the new fonts into
the font tables in RAM. Then, the next time the screen
mode it changed, the new fonts will take effect. On my
palmtop, this happens automatically when SysMgr is loaded
with the 200 command.

FCL font loaders will work in any 100LX or 200LX. My
loader is so small (only 5104 bytes in system RAM) because
I only include A-Z, a-z, and 0-9 for all three characters
sizes (40, 64, and 80 columns). And I do not leave any
room in the loader for additional charcters to be added on
the fly.

I include the source code so that you can see the details
of the character shapes I have made. I did not design all
or even many of the shapes. I just adjusted a few to my
liking. If you want to modify and compile your own font
loader, then you should download and register Gilles Kohl's
FCL.ZIP program from library 11 of the HPHAND forum.
Registration can be done quite easily right on CompuServe
with the GO SWREG command.

You do not have to download, use or register FCL to use
this loader. But if you want to make your own loaders,
then you shoud register FCL when you use it. Feel free to
use any of the characters in the source as a basis for
customizing your own fonts on the 100/200LX palmtop.
