Introduction
-----------------------------------------------------------

FCLDL is a utility that is useful if you want to switch
between two or more installable fonts generated by the FCL
font compiler.

FCL font loaders (like AHFONT.COM, HELV.COM etc) are usually
installed in AUTOEXEC.BAT, and do their work in the
background.

While you can also load such a font by simply typing its
name on the commandline, this shouldn't be done - the old
instance of the font doesn't go away, it stays there taking
up memory.

This is where FCLDL can help - it is able to 'download' over
an already loaded one. It will also immediatley 'activate'
the downloaded font.

Installing FCLDL on your HP100LX or HP200LX
-----------------------------------------------------------

The following files are part of the FCL distribution archive:

       FCLDL.TXT : This documentation
       FCLDL.EXE : The program itself
FCLDL.ICN : The icon for AppMgr installation

To install FCLDL, you only need to copy the FCLDL.EXE and
FCLDL.ICN files to your HP100LX/200LX using the connectivity
pack, Eric Meyers ZIP, a terminal program, KERMIT or other
suitable means. (Refer to the palmtop manual for
instructions on how to tranfer files.)

It is best to store FCLDL.EXE in a directory that is part of
your DOS search PATH. This way, you can invoke FCLDL from
the DOS shell, whatever directory you are currently located
in. (Refer to your DOS documentation for details on the PATH
statement). However, see below for instructions on how to
install FCLDL as one (or several) icons in AppMgr.

To use FCLDL, just specify the name of the font that you
want to activate, like:

  FCLDL AHFONT.COM

Prerequisites for this to work: (read carefully !)
-----------------------------------------------------------

1. An FCL font is already resident (that is, your
   AUTOEXEC.BAT already contains a font-loading statement,
   like C:\MYFONTS\JSFONT.COM)

2. The resident font has enough space available for the new
font that you want to download.

It is a good idea, if you have a collection of fonts that
you want to switch in-between, to always install the largest
one in your AUTOEXEC. This way, you will always have enough
available space for subsequent downloads.

Installing FCLDL along with a font in Application Manager
-----------------------------------------------------------

You can add FCLDL along with a font it should load as an
icon in the 200LX application manager: start MoreApps (hit
the [&..] key) and press [F2] to add a new application. For
ex., if you have copied the FCLDL files to directory
C:\UTILS, here's how you would fill out the dialog that
follows:

  Name: MyFont
  Path: c:\utils\fcldl.exe c:\fonts\myfont.com
Key Assignment: Ctrl+123 (you can't change this)

(Adapt the 'Path' field according to where you put the FCLDL
files, and where you keep your fonts.

You can leave the comments field blank.

This device becomes really useful if you repeat if for
another font - you will have two icons, each one
representing another font, and you can switch between fonts
at a keystroke.

If you like FCLDL, you are encouraged to send the author
a postcard saying so (send it to the address listed above),
or to register FCL itself. You are not required to do either
of it, though.

me to write FCLDL, for his very generous 'licensing fee',
and for the donation of a copy of his amazing translator
program, Entente.
