SWLX V1.4 - ILGRadio to .GDB Bridging Package

SWLX is PostCardWare. If you find SWLX useful, please send a
postcard or QSL card to the author, who can be found
at www.qrz.com using Callsign VE7GGJ.

Please read VERSION HISTORY for important changes to
PRESETS.TXT between V1.3 and V1.4.

Background
==========

ILGRadio http://www.ilgradio.com provides current
Shortwave Radio schedules on the web at no charge
for personal use.

Recently, ILGRadio dropped the requirement to apply
for a Userid/Password to obtain the ILGRadio data,
making the schedules instantly available for new users.

To use this data effectively on the HP DOS Palmtops,
an import filter is required to get the data into
the HPLX Database format. SWLX serves this need.

The author of SWLX grants you permission to use this software for
non-commercial purposes without charge. You may modify the
supplied source program for your own unique needs and you may
distribute your modifications provided that you include the
original SWLX distribution along with your modified program.

Warning
=======

ILGRadio has invested time and energy to gather the information
available in their database. Please do not distribute their
data without permission from ILGRadio.

Please use this software distribution only as a means to get
ILGRadio LINUX "Language" files into a convenient format
on your HP100LX, HP200LX or HP700LX palmtop, for your personal use.

Under no circumstances should you distribute the data to others.

Please note that the use of this software distribution is not
endorsed by nor in any way associated with ILGRadio.

This software distribution does not contain the ILGRadio
Data Base in any form. It is up to you to obtain the data
from ILGRadio (distributed at no charge at the time of this writing)
as documented in the instructions below.

This software distribution acts only as a bridge to convert ILGRadio
LINUX database files to a format suitable for GDBLOAD. GDBLOAD is
then used to load the data into an empty .GDB database for your
personal use.

Persons using this software are assumed to be authorized by ILGRadio
to possess the ILGRadio LINUX Language files.

How To Use SWLX
===============

1. Download and Unzip this software distribution (SWLX.ZIP)
onto a new directory on your hard drive.
    Suggested directory is C:\SWLX\

2. Go to the S.U.P.E.R. Site http://www.palmtop.net/super.html
and download the GDBLOAD program. SWLX has been tested with
GDBLOAD V1.04 but should work with other versions.
Unzip GDB104.ZIP into your c:\SWLX\ directory.

3. Download the ILGRadio "Language Radio Data Files" at
    http://www.ilgradio.com/ilgradio-datafiles/ILGBTLAN.ZIP

4. If Step 3 worked for you, then proceed to Step 9.
    Otherwise, continue with Step 5.

5. The direct link to the "Language Radio Data Files"
is broken, so you will need to walk through the
ILGRadio web pages to get there.

Go to the ILGRadio Web Site at http://www.ilgradio.com.

6. Click on "ILGRadio - Short Wave Radio Software and Databases
for Amateurs, Short Wave Listeners, DXers...
Free ILGRadio Software Download here for amateurs"

7. Look under "Language Radio Data Files"
    for Option

"3b) ILGRadio Language Database for Linux,
... in the pure TEXT Format (without separators): "

8. Select Option 3b to download file "ILGBTLAN.ZIP".

Be sure you are downloading the "Language" files.
The complete ILGRadio database is too large for GDBLOAD to manage.

9. Unzip the "ILGBTLAN.ZIP" file that you just obtained from ILGRadio
    into your C:\SWLX\ directory.

10. Update the PRESETS.TXT file with any memory presets that you wish
to be stored during file import. Lines beginning with a semicolon
are ignored. This feature was developed to make SWLX more useful
with receivers that have presets, such as the Sony ICF-7600GR.

Column 1-7 is Frequency, right justified and blank filled
    Column 9 is 1-Character Preset
    Column 11 is 1-Character Page

If you do not wish to use this feature, put ";" in column 1 of all
    lines in the PRESETS.TXT file.

11. Run CONVERT.BAT to produce SWLXTMP.GDB.
The English-Language input file is called ILGSTENG.TXT and
is selected by default. If you wish to convert one of the
other available Language files, you can specify it when
    you run CONVERT.BAT.

12. Use the HP Connectivity Pack or your HPLX palmtop to open
SWLXTMP.GDB in the Database Application. READ STEP 13.

13. You MAY receive a message indicating "No Records Found".
This is normal with some versions of GDBLOAD.
Just press Enter to clear the message, then press F6
and select any Subset to correct the problem.

14. SWLXTMP.GDB is now ready for use.

15. You should rename SWLXTMP.GDB to something like MYSWL.GDB
so that it will not be overwritten if you run CONVERT.BAT again.

16. Enjoy your new .GDB database. Happy SWLing!

17. For fastest conversion, SWLX should be run on a DOS or WINDOWS
desktop or laptop PC. In a pinch, it can also be run on the
HP200LX, but it will take some time to convert the data.

18. Please report bugs to Gary Jacek VE7GGJ.
You can find my email address at QRZ.COM.
