While you were out......................

I want to talk about the Fileecho System next. First thing to do is set
up some groups. This will make it easier to set up each individual file
echo.

1. Enter ASETUP | FileEcho System | Group Manager and you'll see a
   screen like this:

| Group |

Fill it in so that it looks like this:
Keep in mind that this is just a general outline of what each file echo
that you put in this group will be cinfigured as. It basically saves
you a lot of time when you set up new file echos or if the system
automatically adds one.

|=====================================================================|

Group the nunber used to designate this group. Can be any number you
        want it to be.
Name the name for this group. In this case it is PCB related files
Mask criteria a filename must meet to be automatically added to this
        group.
Desc Leave blank since each file echo will have a description in the
        Tic that accompanies it.
Dest The file directory that you want files in this group moved to.
C:\PCB\DL04 is the name of the directory where I keep all my PCB
        related files.
Use FDB Choose yes, PCBoard and if you ran FCOMP like you were supposed
to when we first began this installation it will fill in the
name of the file database (DIRx) used by the file directory that
you entered in the previous line.
Keep # There is a bit of a bug here. -1 is the only number that will
not trash your file database (DIRx). -1 tells Allfix to append
this entry to the end of the DIRx file and not to try to sort
        anything.
Template The name of the template to use when making a report concerning
a new file. This is the netmail report sent with the file.
You can determine whether or not it is sent to each node when
you configure the nodes later. You can also edit the Template
with the template editor so as to customize it to your liking.
We'll go into that more later.
Banner This is your BBS ad that will be added to each new file that
comes to your system. You can edit it with the Template editor,
         also
Use aka The aka that you want ALLFIX to use when it sends out messages
or new file reports or forwards a request.
LongDesc This tell Allfix to use the File_id.diz as the file description
that it adds to your file database (DIRx). If there is no .DIZ
then it will use the long description found in the Tic file.
If there is no long discription then it will use the normal
         description in the TIC.
Convert If you want ALLFIX to convert the new files to a specific
archive then select an archive in this field. For instance, if
you choose ZIP here then all incoming files will be converted
to zip files as the are imported into the file directories.

Convert all If you set this to yes then Allfix will convert all
incoming files to the archive selected in the previous
field. What this basically means is this.. If you get a
file that is ZIPed and your archive preference is PKZIP
then Allfix will convert the ZIP file to a ZIP file.
Sounds redundant, I know, but it actually has a purpose.
If you have the -ex switch set in the in the external
programs configureation screen then it will repack the zip
file into a tighter Zip file. BTW, we didn't set the -ex
switch when we configured the external programs earlier, so
if you want to do this, now is a good time.
Pass through tells Allfix to import the files or treat them as pass
through files to a downlink. since this is just the group
configuration set it to no. You can change it later if you
             need to.
Allow replace In the TIC file that accompanies each file that you
recieve from the FDN there is a Replace Verb that tells
Allfix (or TICK or DWTick) to replace an older version of
this file with this newer one. This is handy for files
like the NodeDiff, Fidonews, Fidonet.NA, FILEBONE.NA,
etc. that are updated each week. This switch tells allfix
to honor the Replace verb in the tick file or not.
Announce Should files in this group be announced. I have it set
up in the new file announcements screen to announce any new
files in a local SysOps echo. If you want to tell every
one about the new files on your BBS you can set this to yes
and we'll configure the report later.
Dupe check Do you want this file checked against your file base to se
if there is a copy of it there already?
Visible If a downlink that does not have access to this group sends
a %LIST request to you areamgr, should ALLFIX include this
group in the reply (even though the downlink can't get this
group). The reason you might want to do this is this. Say
you have areas that are for the general public and areas
that are for paying customers. You may want to show this
group to the non-paying customers to entice them into
             forking over some cash.
Tiny SB In the TIC file that accompanies each file received from an
FDN is a Seen By list. It is a list of each system that
this file and it's TIC has passed through on its way to
you. If you have downlinks receiving this file and it's
tic from you then ALLFIX will add your address to the end
of the SEEN BY list in the TIC. If you set this to yes
then allfix will delete all but the local net addresses
             from the Seen By list.
No Touch This is kinda confusing here also. What it wants to know
is do you want your file database (DIRx) updated with this
file's listing. In other words do you want this file added
to your BBS file directory listing. If you want this file
and it's description added to your BBS listing put No here.
If this is a file that you will use yourself but don't want
it put into your BBS as availabe for your users to download
then put YES here. I know, Ass Backwards of what you'd think
but thats the way it works. Trust me.
Security Make sure that any files added to your system oor passed to
your downlinks come from the System designated as the
UPlink for this FDN. Thsi keeps some hacker from hatching
a file (possibly a virus or an ANSI bomb) into this FDN
             through your system.
Send Original If you are converting files into a different archive
format than the one that it arrived as then you should put
a yes here so that the original version is sent to your
              downlinks.
Add GIF specs If you expect to receive GIFs in this area put a yes here.

Update magic If you are useing the majic filename feature and you want
allfix to automaticall update the file that these names are
stored in, the put a yes here.

Systems Connected systems Hold off on this one until we get the
              nodes set up.

Ok, thats the general the group setup for getting files from the PCB
FDN. There are 8 or so file echos within this group and we'll set them
up later. This will make it easy though since most of the information
for each file echo is included in this group that we just set up.

Later,
Mark
