Windows 95 Note

The Thunder/24 EISA board will not be updated beyond this driver version, 
nor will it be supported under Windows 95.  Windows 95 expects a
user-accessible base MMIO address, and since the Thunder/24 EISA board 
pre-dates these requirements by several years and offers no MMIO interface, 
it will not be possible to retrofit or upgrade it to run under Windows 95.

Thunder/24 for Windows EISA Windows NT 3.5 driver notes

Driver software for the Thunder/24 EISA card for Windows NT 3.5.

All files located in this directory are compressed into a self extracting
archive using the PKZIP file compression software.  No software is required
to de-compress these files.  After your files have been downloaded, simply
use the following command to extract the files:

                THEISANT -D <destination>

                Example:    THEISANT -D A:

The example above will place the unziped files on to your A: drive.The "-d"
option will extract the original directory hierarchy on to the designated
drive.

Installation Procedures
-----------------------

This disk contains the final release of the Windows NT 3.5 drivers for
the SuperMatch Thunder/24 EISA display cards.  Requirements for
running these drivers are:

	- a EISA bus PC-compatible running the retail release of Windows NT 3.5

	- Thunder/24 EISA display card

This procedure is considerably different from the procedure used with
Windows NT 3.1.  NT 3.1 used the Windows Setup utility to change display
drivers.  NT 3.5 uses the Display option of the Control Panel utility.

 - Turn your system off and install the Thunder/24 card in an empty EISA
   slot if it isn't already installed there.

 - If you have just installed the Thunder/24 card, make sure that you run
   your EISA configuration utility to correctly locate the card in your
   machine's physical address space. An EISA configuration file resides on
   the Thunder/24 OEM diskette.

 - Turn your machine back on and boot up into Windows NT 3.5 on your VGA card.

 - Make sure that you are logged in as Administrator on your system. The
   install will not be successful unless you do the installation as the
   system administrator.

 - Insert the enclosed OEM disk into your floppy drive.

 - Launch the NT 3.5 Control Panel and choose the Display option.

 - Select "Change Display Type".

 - Click the "Change..." button.

 - Click the "Other..." button.

 - In response to the Install From Disk dialog box enter '<drive>:\' according
   to the drive letter of the floppy drive in which you inserted the Thunder/24
   OEM disk. Choose OK.

 - "Thunder/24 EISA" should now be highlighted in the "Select Device" listbox.
   Click the "Install" button.

 - Click "OK" to the "This operation will change your system configuration"
   warning message box.

 - When a dialog box asks you for the path to the display drivers, choose OK
   (it should already have the correct drive specified).

   The Thunder/24 display drivers will be copied to the appropriate Windows
   NT system directories and auxilliary files will be copied into a
   "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\supermac" subdirectory.

 - A hardware confidence test may be run by selecting Yes in the
   MessageBox which will appear. Providing the board passes the hardware
   confidence test a Resolution Picker program will be run. This program
   requires that you select an appropriate monitor and resolution for your
   system. Do this, save your changes, and then exit the Resolution Picker
   program.

   Providing the board passes the hardware confidence test, a Resolution

   appropriate monitor and resolution for your system. Do this, save your
   changes, and then exit the Resolution Picker program.

   Note that once you have selected a monitor, you may use the Control Panel
   Display applet to switch between the available resolutions.  To change
   monitor types, however, you must run the Resolution Picker again.

 - After you exit Resolution Picker, the installer will create Program Manager
   groups to contain the utility programs listed below.

   At this point, the driver should be successfully installed.  Windows NT
   cannot switch display drivers on the fly, so it will tell you to restart
   Windows NT for the settings to take effect.  Choose "Restart Now" when
   you are given the opportunity.

   On restart the Windows NT system should come up utilizing the Thunder/24
   display adapter.


Utility Applications
--------------------

Also copied during installation are several utilities:

        zoom.exe		--> utility to allow hardware 2x zoom

		An icon for running this utility will have been created in
		the common Thunder/24 program manager group. If you want it to
		always be run make sure you copy this icon into your Startup
                program manager group.

		Hotkey can be changed via options dialog but default is
		ALT-UPARROW to cause Thunder/24 display to enter into 2x
		zoom mode and ALT-DOWNARROW to restore to 1x mode.

        res.exe			--> resolution picker utility

		An icon for running this utility will have been created in
		the Administrator's personal Thunder/24 program manager group.

		Invoke res.exe to specify the type of monitor connected top
		your system and the resolution you wish to run.  The new
		settings will take effect on your next Windows NT reboot.

		Once you have selected a monitor with the resolution picker,
		you may use the standard NT 3.5 Control Panel Display applet
		to change between the different resolutions supported by that
		monitor.

	    ntmoncal.exe		--> monitor calibration utility

		An icon for running this utility will have been created in
		the Administrator's personal Thunder/24 program manager group.

		Invoke this utility to adjust your monitor's gamma and color
		balance. Any new settings take effect immediately and on
		every reboot thereafter until changed by the administrator.

	gamma.exe		--> monitor gamma adjust utility

		This program is not installed as an icon in any of the
		created program groups. It can be installed from or run from
		%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\supermac.

		Invoke this utility with no command line parameters to adjust
		your monitor's gamma values (ie: brightness of all guns or
		each individual color gun). This utility is not as
		comprehensive as ntmoncal.exe but provides a quick adjust
		capability.
		
		Each user may have their own gamma adjustment upon login to
		their account by adding gamma.exe as an icon in their Startup
		program manager group with the following commandline:

			%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\supermac\gamma.exe load

		When run from the Startup group with the 'load' commandline
		option, gamma.exe loads the user's gamma adjust values from
		the user's registration database, loads the adjusted
		color palette to the display card, and then terminates.
