Steven,
saw your message about the hardware you have for sale.. If I
read it right, you are/were using model 4's as dumb terminals on
unix. The shop where I program is getting ready to move to unix
and nt development, and I am going to take an old 386 I have and
use it to learn unix (linux). I have 2 model 4's that I could
use as terminals. If it's not too much trouble, could you tell
me what's involved in setting them up - necessary hardware (other
than cables) and software. I have set up netware and lantastic
systems under dos , but have never used unix, so I'm on the early
(steep) part of the curve <G>. Any information will be
appreciated. Thanks
Tom

Basically using the Model 4 as a dumb terminal is easy. Put in
the diskette and re-boot the machine. We have been using a
program called EMUL-8 which makes the Model 4 look like and
ADDS25 Terminal to the Xenix system. You have to have all the
baud rates, parity, etc. set up correctly, other than that it's
easy. Good Luck!

Steve,
thanks for the reply. I would assume that any terminal emulator
for the Mod 4 (VT100, etc) that was also supported by the unix
package would work in place of EMUL8.? thanks again.

Steve,

I'm looking for a TRS-80 with 8" diskette drives. Is your Model
III this type?

Bill,

The Model 3 came with single sided 5.25 drives although 8"
drives can be connected thru the secondary port at the rear of
the computer.

Or a Model 12, or a Model 16, or a Model 16b, or a Model 6000

The model 2 had 8" floppy drives, correct, but 8 inchers
could be connected thru the secondary port on rear of computer

I did it years ago and was successful. I have been asked
how so many times I wish I had saved the schematics and part
numbers of the equipment I used. The drives were taken out of
broken RS computers.
