Dear Tandy Guru,

I am a PC Specialist of the late 20th century. My experience
with PCs are limited to this realm of fast processers and plug
and play devices. A friend has asked me to look at a Tandy 1000
that a friend gave her from their garbage pile. It has a DOS 3.2
System Disk it runs from and only 384k (I think) of memory. To
me, it's a dinosaur. To her, it's the only computer she's ever
owned. Does this model come equiped with a hard drive that may
not be connected right now? If there's one made for it, where do
I find it (more mem too!)? Is it even worth upgrading?

I appreciate any advice!

It can be upgraded to 640k of RAM and yes, there are hard-cards
that can be installed. Some T1000's came with hard drives,
others with two floppies. If there's one floppy, chances are
good that there's a harddrive lurking inside. Probably about
20Mb.
