Don:

     I also have two Model I's (a 4K and a 16K) with the
Expansion units. I have a floppy drive (Percom) which may or may
not work. Since it has been a long time since I used one of
these, what is needed to get the floppy going??

I assume that I need some kind of system disk, but where do
I get one?? How is the drive addressed from BASIC? Is there a
DOS-interpreter that is loaded to accomplish this?

I'd also like to get repair manuals for the Expansion unit
and the monitor, but Tandy National Parts no longer carries them
(in fact, the guy behind the counter couldn't believe that I had
one, let alone two, of the Model I's, and that they worked).

     TIA

Richard, I will check into my old archives and see if I
can find any of the information that you need. The disk drive
only works with the expansion interface and I think that you
needed Level II Basic software to use it. But will look into
some of my stuff and get back to you.

I do have Level II basic in the 16K version 1 that I have.
I don't know what version is in the 4K one that I have.

     Thanks!

What you need is "Disk Basic," not Level II Basic. You should
still be able to order it from National Parts.

Thanks for the help. Since I never really "used" this
machine (my favorite of the day was the VIC-20), I'm not very
familiar with its operation.

Richard,

There is a place that use to have a lot of TRS80 information and
books on sale. I have a list as of Aug 1994. The address is
Computer News P.O. Box 680 Casper WY, Phone (307)-256-6483. You
need a copy of TRSDOS or NEWDOS or LDOS. Any of these operating
systems would work the Model I and disk drives. My Mod. I drives
were Sugart SA400 35 track single sided. Later systems like
the Model III would use the Double sided disks. I have a copy of
LDOS 5.13 but can't find any TRSDOS originals disks . Guess I
gave it all away with my Model I. I still have a Complete working
Model 4 and all of the information for it. The model 4 can work
as both a Model III or 4.

Wish you luck in getting the info. Will provideany additional
help if is can.

Don M.

MITS Altair??

Have a good week.

Rich, yes you need a M1 System disk to run off disks. Have
TRSDOS, NewDos, or LDOS available here if like. Also have EI
Manuals & schematics available. Frank Gottschalk (TRS-80

Yes Rich, I do now have about 80% of my TRS-80 stuff in an
inventory list. Send me a snail mail address and I'll send you a
copy. Anybody else listening interested?

Your 4k model I won't work with the EI. You'll need the 16-k
Model I, and an expansion interface to work with the disk drives.
I've got some old system disks here somewhere.
     Best,
     Mike

Mike:

I have both a 4k and 16k Level II systems. It seems that of
of the EI's supports a PERCOM floppy drive (it has a funny
daughter card on the EI board).

If you can make a copy of the DOS-BASIC and TRS-DOS system
disks, I'd really appreciate it. When you find them, let me know
and I'll give you my snail-mail address.

     Thanks again!!
