  DESCRIPTION:

"RegMinus" attempts to remove the settings specified in a ".reg" file
from the Microsoft Windows 95 or NT registry. (.reg files can be
exported from "regedit.exe" and sometimes are included as part of a
software package installation.) Keys and/or values that were unable
to be removed will be displayed in the list box when the program is
completed. Their line number in the .reg file is displayed at the
beginning of each line. RegMinus will accept the name of the .reg
file on the command line when the program is started. If no .reg
file is specified on the command line, an "Open File" dialog is
displayed so a file can be chosen.

Items in the ".reg" file that should be ignored can be added to the
"[IgnoreList]" of the RegMinus.ini file, which should be located in
the same directory as RegMinus.exe. Items in this .ini list are case
sensitive. By default, there is one entry: "REGEDIT4", which is
usually the first line of a typical .reg file.

The program starts at the end of a .reg file and works back to the
beginning. Normally, RegMinus will remove all subkeys of a given
key before it attempts to remove that key. If other keys are found
in the registry below a key that is to be removed, a dialog box asks
if the user would like those subkeys also removed. The subkeys
could have been placed in the registry by another application, a
different .reg file, or it may be that entries are not in a proper
order in the .reg file being used (i.e. subkeys are listed in the
.reg file BEFORE the line defining the parent). The user can either
delete all the subkeys under the current key, or leave the subkeys
(and the current key) intact. If the latter option is chosen, at
program completion the current key will be listed with those items
not removed.

  Installation:

RegMinus was developed with Delphi ver 4.0. There is no SETUP.EXE or
INSTALL.EXE to run -- simply unzip the files to the desired directory.
The .ini file must be located in the same directory as the .exe file.

This author has benefited from other Freeware and Shareware
programs. When it became necessary to remove registry settings
that had been applied using a 160K .reg file, a search of the
Internet did not reveal any utility that would easily remove the
registry settings. After spending four hours on each of two systems
using regedit.exe to manually remove the settings, a better way
had to be found -- hence the creation of RegMinus.

RegMinus has been posted on the Internet for free access in the
hopes that it will be able to help others. If it does not work for
you, I'm sorry. Unfortunately, this author does not have the time or
resources to support the many who might use the software.

Best Wishes!
