To install PCXNET on your PC

1) the Microsoft Installer has to be already installed on your PC. (It is alrady installed if it is using Windows 2000 or ME
or if Applications eg MS Word 2000 or Ms Office 2000 have already been installed on this PC using the MS
Installer. ie MSI.DLL is in the Windows\System32 directory

If it not installed you will immediately get a message when you try to
install PCXNET saying it is not installed and the PCXNET installation
will abort.

2) the VB5 Runtime library has to be installed to run PCXNET
ie MSVBVM50.DLL must be in the Windows\System32 Directory

PCXNET + MS Installer the way to Install, Manage and Debug Software on PCs
==========================================================================


With the release on Windows 2000 Microsoft introduced their Installer
System to standardize the way software is installed on PC.

Please read PCXNET.DOC for examples and information

PCXNET works with the MS Installer to
On Individual PCs
=================
- List Full Details of All the Applications installed on the PC using
  MS Installer Scripts
- Provide User Friendly Screens for Users to use the Full
  Functionality of the MS Installer to Install and Refresh
  Applications on their PC
- Provide an easy method for Users to install a later version of
  Application Software on their PCs, by automatically creating and
  applying MS Installer Patch Files.
- List all the DLLs, Files, INI and Registry entries installed by
  the MS Installer script for the Application
- Monitor an application when is is being executed to identify ALL
  the DLLs, Files INI and Registry entries accessed when it is
  executing.
- Combine the output from the two above reports to produce a
  Complete Profile defining the Software Environment required for
  the Application to run successfully.
- Debug Applications by identifying differences between the
  Software Profile and the Current PC Configuration
- Permit the correction of individual entries or run an MS
  Installer Refresh targeted to update missing or incorrectly
  Versioned Files, Registry entries or Shortcuts as required
- Identify if these values have been changed as the result of
  subsequently installing other Applications
- Combine the reports of DLLs etc from the MS Installer Scripts
  of Multiple Applications to identify conflicts.
- List all the Windows APIs and their DLLs called by individual
  .EXE, .DLL files etc and identify missing entries
- Detect multiple versions of the same DLLs etc on disks and
  provide an easy to use interface to resolve the.
- List the OLE Registration Details checking the Registry against
  the DLLs

Network
-------
- Provide the infrastructure for System's Administrators(SAs) to
  setup and maintain a Central Repositry of MS Installer
  Application Scripts so that individual Users are presented
  with a List of Software they are Authorised to Install and an
  easy method of installing and updating it on their PC.
- Provide the infrastructure for System's Administrators(SAs) to
  setup and maintain the Central Repositry of MS Installer
  Application Scripts for their Users (See above)
- Provide a method for SAs to automatically update the Software on
  User's PCs
  - When they next use it
  - Immediately
  - When they next Reboot.

Remote Debugging
----------------
- Provide a method for Users to report problems on their PCs to Central Support
- When a user reports a problem to Central Support details of his PC and the differences between
  the state of the Application installed on his PC and the "Standard" Installation
  are reported.
- Central Support shoudl normally be able to use the supplied data to solve the
  problem.
- They can then
  - use the MS Installer to refresh all or part of the Application
  - make individual updates
  - request more Reports/Information
- Jobs are run automatically with or without user sanction (as user required)
  on the User's PC

INSTALLATION
============

The Installation is performed by a "Standard" InstallShield(R)
Installation Routine.

Run the Execution Program SETUP.EXE and reply to the Prompts.

PCXNET is installed in the Default
x:\Program Files\WINOK\PCXRAY directory
where x is the same drive as the Windows Operating System

The PCXNET logs and scripts are stored in the x:\WINOK Directory

STATUS
======

PCXNET is "Shareware" and as such a License must be purchased once
the initial 30 Day Trial period after Installation has elapsed.

PCXNET disables itself after 30 Days.

Licenses for PCXNET can be purchased from "NorthStar Solutions"
as described in the "Registration" Menu in PCXNET.
