Installation
------------

Make sure you have the Visual Basic 5 runtime files installed on your system (They are not contained in the archive.) You can freely download a VB5 Runtime install program from Microsoft Corporation at the following address: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/msvbvm50.exe

If the VB5 components are installed, you can extract the archive to an empty directory and execute the setup.exe program. If you have opened the archive with Winzip, you can click the install button on the toolbar to extract and install the program.

That's all there is to it.

Seti@Home Monitor Panel is designed for a screen resolution that is 800 x 600 pixels. This is due to the fact that Seti@Home Client wants to have a display size of 800 x 600 for all its pretty graphics and colours. It will let you go smaller, but things do get squished.

WHY S@H Monitor Panel?
----------------------

I have been running the Seti@Home Client (S@H) program since it's launch on May 17, 1999. Since then, I have 'requisitioned' a dozen(12) computers to the cause. Eleven of the twelve are at the office, and the other one is at home. On occasion, the S@H program will fail to connect to its Internet server and it will wait endlessly for me to press the 'Try Again' button. Worse, you can only find out that the computer is no long processing data when you are at that computer. My office is a 15 minute drive from home, but is only 20 seconds away over the phone, so I created S@H Monitor Panel (SMP.) Although it was designed to work well over a less than perfect modem line(19200-28800), it works superbly over a LAN.

There were two requirements that my program had to accomplish. The first was to be able to see the S@H program status of any computer that I could give a path to, either by mapping a drive or by using the UNC path, without interfering with the operation of the S@H program. The second, was that it had to give an audible warning if there is a problem. The third was it had to update over a slow modem connection reasonably fast.

Well, I'm happy to say that I accomplished all three requirements, and even gave the program some bells and whistles. Please read the README.htm file installed into your SetiMonitor directory for more information about this SMP Program.

The Future
----------
I really have no intention of creating anymore versions of S@H Monitor Panel, but I will update it if necessary. Everything should continue to work properly as long as the Seti@Home Client doesn't change in a way that would affect how this program gets its data. I'll continue using this program as long as necessary (until SETI no longer wants my help,) so if an update is necessary, I'll probably notice it myself. If it is necessary to contact me, please do so through this account BattleHawk@pcgeek.net

I hope that you enjoy using this program, and I hope that it is useful to you.
