Introduction
------------
Caller ID Page (CIDPage) is a small program that monitors the modem
installed on your computer for Caller ID information. CIDPage can
then send a pager message to your beeper to let you know what number
called.

Many older modems are not equipped to gather Caller ID information,
so make sure your modem does before using CIDPage.

To check your modem start any terminal program where you can type
commands to the modem. Type the following string and watch the modem's
response: AT#CID=1

If the modem responds with "OK", try having someone place a call to
that line and watch the modem's responses. You should see lines of
text appear such as "NMBR = 0123456789" and "TIME = 0123".

If the modem responds with "ERROR" your modem may not work with Caller
ID or your modem may require special setup commands. If you can
determine what the setup commands are for your modem, you can enter
the setup string in the "ModemSetup" area of CIDPage's setup.

CIDPage then can use the caller's number to send a message to your
pager. CIDPage also keeps a log of all incoming calls.

Setting Up CIDPage
------------------

There are three ways to use Caller ID Page:

1. If you do not have a beeper, you can use CIDPage like any Caller
ID box to record who called and when.

2. If you have a beeper and just one phone line, you can have
CIDPage send you a page after the call is completed.

3. If you have a beeper, 2 phone lines, and two modems, you can
have CIDPage send you a page immediately. CIDPage can also share
the second modem (the "paging" modem) with another application.

Using CIDPage as a simple Caller ID log
---------------------------------------
If your modem works with Caller ID you should be able to use
CIDPage easily with only one setting. Just click "SETUP" and
change the "CallerIDPort" setting to whatever COM port the modem
is using. Set the DeluxeCallerID to TRUE if your Caller ID setup
returns names as well as numbers.

The program defaults to COM2, so you may see some error messages
when CIDPage starts and attempts to use that port. Ignore them
until you have set the CallerIDPort to the correct setting and
clicked "OK".

Using CIDPage with a beeper and one phone line
----------------------------------------------
Follow the above instructions for setting the CallerIDPort number.
Then change the following settings in Setup:

Setting Value
------------ -----------------------------------------------------
Paging TRUE

PagerNumber The number you dial to send a page to your beeper.

PageWait 80 This is the number of seconds the program will
wait before sending the page. If you use an
answering machine, be sure to set this number to
allow callers to leave a message. Without an
answering machine, this setting can be as low as 30
              seconds.

PagePort 0 This tells CIDPage to use the same modem for
sending pages as it does for gathering Caller ID
              information.

PagerPrefix ,,,, This is the string sent to the modem after
dialing your pager number. This is usually a series
of commas to instruct the modem to wait while the
paging service answers. 4-6 commas is usually a
long enough delay. You can also add a number here
to alert you that the page is coming from CIDPage.
Example: ",,,,0" The resulting page will have a
zero in front of the caller's number.

PagerSuffix # This is the key that sends the page. This is
              usually the pound key.

SendTime TRUE This adds the time of the call to the end of
              the page.

All these settings help CIDPage build a string to send to the modem
to perform the page. When the string is completed it looks like
this:

  <pager number><pager prefix><caller's number><time><pager suffix>

  Example: 555-1212,,,,12345678900123#

The resulting page will appear as: 12345678900123 meaning a caller
  from (123) 456-7890 called at 1:23 am.

Using CIDPage with a beeper, 2 phone lines and 2 modems
-------------------------------------------------------
Follow the above instructions for setting the CallerIDPort number and
setting up for a beeper.

Then change the following settings in Setup:

Setting Value
------------ -----------------------------------------------------
Paging TRUE

PagerNumber The number you dial to send a page to your beeper.

PageWait 5 This is the number of seconds the program will
              wait before sending the page.

PagePort This is the COM port number of the second (paging)
modem. This should NOT be the same as the modem
that gathers Caller ID information, and it should
be connected to a different phone line.

Prefered Settings
-----------------
Caller ID Page tries to be as flexible as possible, but there are
many different kinds of modems, pagers and system setups out there.

CIDPage was tested with a Diamond SupraExpress 33.6 modem and a
Motorola Renegade beeper. The paging service used was MobileComm.

Registering
-----------
If you wish to use some of the more advanced features, you must
pay for CIDPage. Registration is $10. You can register wiht a
credit card by phone or e-mail. Or you can use a check and
register by mail. Copies of newer versions are free if obtained
electronically (by e-mail or the Web). An additional $5 is
required to mail out a diskette.

Be sure to include you name, address and phone number for any
registration method. Credit card users must include the credit
card type, number and expiration date.
