Galaxy Map) for better visualize the sky and use a 3D engine for view
a three-dimensional way. There is much you can do with this program, and
it is rich in features and options. In Local Space you can generate
maps for Pov-ray (Persistence of vision ray tracer) version 3.0
and vrml worlds (vrml 1.0).
Sky3D has much information about stars and deep sky objects, and a
glossary for description of the astronomical
terms.

LONG DESCRIPTION
Designed to show users how they can use 3D vision, Sky 3D is a
program written for explores the sky.
There are three desktops in Sky 3D: Skyview, Local Space and Galaxy Map.
The Skyview enables users to view stars and deep-sky objects were they
appear in sky from any viewpoint.
The viewpoint can be anywhere in the galaxy.
The Local Space shows from an external viewpoint the star near you.
In this vision you will get a better understanding of 3D relationship
between stars. A special option allows you to generate povray files and
vrml worlds of your current viewpoint.
Galaxy Map shows a galactic perspective of the sky. It's better uses
from long distances.
The Sky 3D program uses the Main Menu and a
toolbar to access various features. The Help provides detailed
information about the program, the stars and deep-sky objects.
Sky 3D displays 9100 stars from the General Catalog of Trigonometric
Stellar Parallaxes (Fourth Edition) and deep-sky objects with distance
in light-years. All stars show their colors (spectrum type).
All non stellar objects are represented with balloons.
You can get information about any object displayed on the screen by
simply pointing at the object with the mouse.
We are very accustomed to seeing sky maps made from an Earth-based
perspective, because that is how observers need them.
But we hope that users find these view modes useful in visualizing
the large-scale structure of the Milky Way and where objects
of their particular interest lie.
