#######################################################
########### CYCAS public 3.9 Linux #################
#######################################################

This package contains the public version of CYCAS 3.9
and some example drawings. The HTML documentation is
located in the doc/ drawer. You can open the HTML-guide
in any browser, e.g. with the command:

"mozilla doc/readme.html"

##### Installation #####

- switch to root.
- 'cd' into the installation directory.
- type "./cycas3_install"
- follow the instructions.

The installer will ask you for the installation path.
(Default is "/usr/local/".) A "cycas3" directory will
be created there, containing the program and all
data files.

Some CYCAS startscripts will also be created and placed
in /usr/local/bin:

/usr/local/bin/cycas3
/usr/local/bin/cycas3_verbose
/usr/local/bin/cycas3_deinstall

The Installer will detect your Gnome or KDE -Desktop
automatically and will install a menu entry in your
Applications menu.

The Desktop needs to be restarted to activate the menu
entry.

You can remove the installation directory now.

##### How to start the program ? #####

Type "cycas3" or "/usr/local/bin/cycas3" in any xshell.

Users of Gnome or KDE can start CYCAS at the menu entry
Applications/CYCAS.

If CYCAS is started for the first time by any user,
the wrapper will create a "CYCAS3" directory in the
users homedir and will copy the related files there.

##### First steps #####

Select "Load" from the pulldown menu "Project" to view
the example drawings. Some examples are 3 dimensional.
Select 3D/Perspective or one of the parallel pro-
jections to see the 3D model. If POV-Ray (TM) is
installed on your system, you can also start 3D/Render.

##### Online documentation #####

The "Help" menu in the CYCAS window will start the HTML
-online documentation. It contains basic instructions,
some useful tutorials and the CYCAS user manual.

##### Rendering with POV-RAY #####

CYCAS uses POV-Ray for creating photorealistic
graphics. This program is included in the most
distributions or you can download it from this url:

http://www.povray.org/download

After installation of POV-Ray, we recommend to adjust
the I/O restrictions in the POV-Ray configuration file:

/usr/local/etc/povray/3.6/povray.conf

You can also work on a copy of this file in your home
directory:

mkdir .povray
mkdir .povray/3.6
cp /usr/local/etc/povray/3.6/povray.conf .povray/3.6

Add this line to the bottom of one of the files:

read+write* = %HOME%

If this option is chosen, POV scripts can read and
write everything in the users home directory.

##### Textures #####

The POV-Ray export module supports the following
texture image formats now:

TGA and JPG:

For normal textures, eg. wall or floor textures.

256 color PNG:

For transparent textures, eg. trees.

Both texture types are stored in the CYCAS3/dat/tex
directory.

##### Ordering/Pricing #####

Latest informations on CYCAS, pricing and ordering can
be found at the CYCAS website:

http://www.cycas.de

##### De-installation #####

Switch to root and start the de-installation script:

/usr/local/bin/cycas3_deinstall

The script will remove all related files except the
users "$HOME/.cycas3" dirs.
